Dante / AES67 Audio Networking
IP-based audio transport over standard Ethernet.
Specifications
- Dante: Audinate proprietary, runs on standard IP networks
- AES67: Open standard for audio-over-IP interoperability
- Latency: 150μs to 5ms (configurable)
- Channels: Up to 512×512 per device on Gigabit
Infrastructure
- Runs on standard Cat6/Cat6A Ethernet
- Requires managed switches with QoS (DSCP prioritization)
- Supports redundant network (primary + secondary)
Common Uses in AV
- Microphone and speaker distribution
- DSP interconnect
- Multi-room/multi-zone audio
- Replacement for analog audio snakes
Key Considerations
- Dante and AES67 can interoperate (Dante devices support AES67 mode)
- Dedicated VLAN recommended for audio traffic
- PTPv2 clock sync required — switches must support IEEE 1588
- Dante Controller software is free for configuration
