NDI — Network Device Interface

Newtek/Vizrt protocol for transporting video, audio, and metadata over standard IP networks.

Key points:

  • Runs on standard Gigabit Ethernet (no special infrastructure)
  • NDI|HX: Compressed version for lower bandwidth requirements
  • NDI 5+: Full bandwidth, ~125Mbps for 1080p60
  • Free NDI Tools package includes virtual webcam, screen capture, and monitoring
  • Widely supported: PTZ cameras, vMix, OBS, Tricaster, many AV-over-IP devices
  • Discovery via mDNS — devices auto-discover on same subnet
